Social criticism, irreverence, horror and humor, in an innovative aesthetic. These are some of the key ingredients that the spectators will find the show La Caliwood Luis Ospina: the avant-garde cinema of Colombia, in cinemas in the Cultural CAIXA of Rio de Janeiro from June 27 to July 9, 2017. Curated by Lucia Ramos Monteiro, the show has a complete retrospective of the Colombian filmmaker founder of the Cali Group and the exponent of the independent film of Colombia.
With a total of 34 films, La Caliwood Luis Ospina is the first retrospective of this scale dedicated to the filmmaker in Brazil and the most complete retrospective held in his honor. The show has 29 director of films, including films and shorts and productions of other directors with whom he has worked, such as Carlos Mayolo and Patricia Restrepo. The program of the show includes a master class proposed by Ospina a short course with Patricia Machado (PUC-Rio), Marc Berdet (USP) and Fabián Núñez (UFF), as well as the dialogues between the director and Brazilian directors Sandra Kogut and João Moreira Salles.
Author of a wide, forceful and constant filmography, the combination of fiction, documentaries and experimental films, Ospina finds his work at the intersection between cinema, video and visual arts while providing an image of culture and society Beyond stereotypes.
Next to Andrés Caicedo, Carlos Mayolo and Ramiro Arbeláez, Luis Ospina founded in 1971 to Ciudad Solar, mixed collective housing and cultural center that soon becomes the epicenter of creative energy in Cali, the addition of artists, writers, curators , Criticism and training of directors. The production of the film is not so intense in the years that the nickname Caliwood arises.
